Ya Iceland is in a world of hurt from that volcano. So much ash going into the atmosphere could cause global problems. Already shut down airports in Europe and almost crashed a plane when it shut down the engines of it because they flew through the ash cloud. They dropped 13,000 feet before they could restart the engines.

Why in the world would they even do that? Talk about near death experience.

the ash cloud is probably not going exactly where the meteorologists predicted it would (go figure).....so they probably didnt think they were flying into it.
yeah its going to be a bit cooler with all that ash in the atmosphere for a while---and it wasnt HUMAN intervention that caused it---so this 'global warming' is being done by the earth itself without us having to do anything!!!!
I really hate flying....and dont think I will be doing ANY any time soon---I have been on an airplane that went thru a bad wind sheer and lost a good deal of altitude so that the people standing wound up in the back seats....and the drinks went flying!!! (not enough for the air thingy-s to drop but enough to scare the people on the flight very badly).
so what's for dinner????? (getting the talk onto a better subject)

The ash cloud is up so high that I think they thought it was just another cloud or the pilot's were sleeping and letting Auto-pilot do it's thing. Either way they were lucky to get them restarted.
Sup Scythe.
Global warming huh? One scientist in California says we are now in global cooling. Who knows anymore. My view is that the Earth goes through these types of cycles all the time. Have we made it worse with our pollution? Probably. But is it enough to cause a huge affect? No body can say for sure. We only have a little bit of data to go by, not enough to say for sure.
Going to my nephews bday party at my sister's house so we are grilling out. Probably going to be having hamburgers and hot dogs.

yes we have no life outside of OT
yes the earth has gone thru many cycles of heating up and then cooling down thru no action of the lifeforms on it---its NORMAL, but for some stupid reason scientists have nothing better to do and say its our fault---perhaps for a part of a degree but not for what is going on currently. (statistics can be used both for and against this thesis).
Volcanos go off thus spewing tons and tons of ash into the air--causing a cooling of the earth due to the effect of the sun reflecting off of the particulate matter into space instead of it hitting the planet---happens A LOT. There are other natural events that cause heating or cooling that we humans have no part of and happened before we were around and will continue long after each and every one of us is in the grave.
hot dogs sound good, not sure what we are going to have as I am still kinda worried about the hubby--though okonomiyaki is on the board for tonight.
got lots of housework done today....laundry, taking out trash, putting stuff away that has been out for tooo long, getting dry cleaning together ---very productive day for me. Think I need to see a doctor too I am usually not like that---

Actually had porkchops and the like. It was delicious. So funny to watch my nephew try to have cake for the first time. Utensils? Nope. Hands? Why? Nah, just go straight for it with the mouth. So funny.
Sleep now. Classes in the am.

re: global warming. It's all about the $$$. A group of scientists found a way to turn a set of temperature readings into 'evidence' that the earth is warming up. This is the famous hockey stick graph. They also 'proved' that this global warming was caused by human emissions for carbon dioxide (CO2). They advocate that cap and trade system should be put in place to reduce CO2 emissions and that we should increase the use of alternative energy, lowering CO2 emissions as well.
These scientists are funded by politicians and political advocacy groups, that need the $$$ from the cap and trade (which is really a tax). So the scientists have a bias towards proving global warming and CO2. The more they help the cause, the better they get funded.
Then it turned out that these scientists:
- did not use the complete set of data
- data that is very hard to obtain to begin with
- are not able to reproduce the process going from the raw data to the manipulated data set, that is used to produce the famous hockey stick
- are not willing to share with the rest of the scientific world the formulas they used to go from the raw data to the manipulated data set, that is used to produce the famous hockey stick
Further damning, e-mails from these scientists were leaked onto the internet. These e-mails show that they were cooking the numbers, manipulating the data in order to get to the results they wanted. The e-mails also show that they were deliberately keeping scientists that were critical to their work, out of the process and that they were putting these other scientists in a bad light.
Nice eh? This CO2 thing could cost us trillions of dollars. This is another money grab from unscrupulous a-holes, politicians included. Including a-hole number one, Al Gore, the inventor of the internet, who got a Nobel prize for this B/S.
Other than that, I have no strong opinion about it.
Tim

Well there are a few good things to come out of the whole global warming scam---we really do need to start recycling and treating the planet better, not because of the reasons they gave but because it makes for a cleaner and better place to live (eg. I lived in japan--they recycle just about everything, what cant be recycled is either burned or put in a landfill--now living on an island you can imagine there arent too many empty land fills left---so when you put out your trash ALL of your neighbors sift thru it to make sure you have the right stuff in the correct bags! AND they give you BAD looks when you have stuff to go to the land fills!)
We are now even building whole sub divisions on what used to be garbage dumps!
So getting people to start thinking about taking care of the planet is not a bad thing in any way....and this is one (tiny) result of the whole global warming thing.
Not to mention improving the car to NOT use oil would get us off the oil standard so we would not need to rely on the middle east for anything. A self sufficient country is a very very good idea! (when cars first came out oil was only ONE of the possibilities for it--there were others that were a bit more costly at the time, but would have kept this whole can of worms from ever being opened, stupid short sighted idiots )
yes its monday, yet again. the weather is still nice so no complaints---yet.
and yes pwnd, watching toddlers eat cake is quite funny---I remember my nephew's (now 28) first birthday party---he had cake all over him, his chair and the WHOLE kitchen, good thing my sister and I (who were supposed to be watching him, yeah right) could just go home and let the silly parents do the washing up!

Tharq all that may be true and then again it might not, for that reason I feel that anything we can do to lessen human impact on the environment is a good thing.
